What is your educational/career background before LCL?

I graduated from Carroll College, before it became a university, in the early 90s. I started teaching the fifth grade. Then I got bounced to the middle and high school, and there was no going back after that. I LOVE teenagers! They are bomb. Super cool. I REALLY enjoy working alongside them.

What do you enjoy most about being at this school so far?

I love the shorthand we all have here at LCL--the shared stories we’re all a part of, the common experience.  Nowhere else is like this.

What things are you looking forward to this school year?

Being back. I missed it a ton while I was away. Both the kids and teachers. I love the challenge we set for ourselves in aiming for the higher life standards—academic, spiritual, and professional.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

I love the one from Psalms that talks about family and tradition. Psalm 16:6—“For the lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. Surely I have a delightful inheritance…” School is a lot like family. I’ve been amazingly blessed with both. My mom and dad gave me a fabulous childhood, I married a great guy, Jesus loaned us 3 wonderful kids, and God has continued that awesomeness with all the kids and colleagues I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years.

What is your educational/career background before Lake Country Lutheran?

I have been in Lutheran schools my entire life. From preschool through 8th grade, I attended First Immanuel Lutheran in Cedarburg, WI. I spent my high school days at fellow Midwest Classic Conference school, Living Word Lutheran. And just recently, I attended Concordia University Wisconsin, from which I graduated with majors in Secondary Education and History, and minors in Theology and Spanish.

What do you enjoy most about being at this school so far?

What’s not to love about LCL? I could make enormous things with everything I enjoy here. However, the best part has to be the family-like atmosphere we have here. From students to teachers, everyone is treated like a brother or sister in Christ. When we say it, we mean it. Seeing students and teachers, work together, learn from one another, and spend time together is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had.

What things are you looking forward to in your first school year here?

There are many things I am looking forward to in my first year of teaching at LCL. First, I am ecstatic to teach world history and to do so from a Christian worldview. It is my goal to show students that history is more than just names and dates, it is the story of God and His relationship with His greatest creation: humanity. I hope that students will have a history experience unlike anything they’ve had. I am also looking to getting involved with Lightening athletics. I am already heavily involved with coaching football and I love every minute of it. I am excited to see what God has in store for this special group of athletes. I will also be involved with basketball in some capacity, which I am also extremely excited for.

What is your favorite Bible verse, and why?

My favorite Bible verse is also my confirmation verse, and it comes from Micah 6:8. It says, “And He has shown you O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”

This verse gives the formula for how to live life and how to do so in a way that honors God. It shows us that following God is not overly complicated, but difficult because of our sinful nature. God shows us exactly what He wants for us and living up to that standard is what I strive to do. This verse has become my personal mission statement, as I look to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God in everything I do.
