U.S. History I
1st Semester Project
Mr. Fischer 2012
Introduction
The United States has a long and interesting history but few truly know the accomplishments of many African-Americans to our country. There are a few African-Americans that people are aware of and their importance to America’s history, but there are many people often neglected and forgotten from our history books and daily discussions. The importance of these individuals should not be overlooked or minimized, and their life surely inspired many other African-Americans to have high goals and build upon what others before them had done.
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to help the students realize and acknowledge the many accomplishments and contributions of African-Americans to our country. The students will be shown the difficulties and dangers faced by many blacks as they worked to be successful and make a name for themselves. The students will become familiar with the important figures in African-American history that played a major role in helping the United States become the country it is today. The students will have a better understanding of what occurred during the time period in which their figure lived and the results of their contributions- both immediate and long-term. Lastly, the students will have an appreciation for their country and recognize the great work, sacrifice and courage of African-Americans in United States history.
