COURSE TITLE YEAR PREREQUISITES CREDIT
EARTH SCIENCE (SC 100) 9 REQUIRED 2
This is a first year science course for the college or non-college bound student. The course consists of units of study in astronomy, geology, hydrology, meteorology, and environmental science. The relevance and practical application of the earth sciences is emphasized. Teaching methodologies include lecture, reading, video presentation and laboratory investigation.
BIOLOGY (SC 200) 10 REQUIRED/DEPT. APPROVAL 2
The course will cover all major fields in biology; the units of study include cytology, genetics, human anatomy and physiology, zoology, botany and ecology. The course is taught from the perspective that all life was created by God. A variety of learning strategies are utilized including: lecture, reading, independent research, video/computer presentation and an extensive use of hands on laboratory investigations.
CHEMISTRY (SC 300) 10,11,12 SC 200 AND MA 150 OR HIGHER 2
Chemistry emphasizes the structure and interaction of matter with matter. Major topics of study include organization of chemistry, chemical formulas and equations, phases of matter, and solutions of acids, bases, and salts. The principles of scientific problem solving are taught in laboratory situations. Advanced topics organic, biochemistry and descriptive chemistry may also be covered time permitting. Safety goggles are required (available through school for approximately $7.50)
PHYSICS (SC 350) 10,11,12 SC 200 AND MA 200 OR HIGHER 2
Students in this course will study in the following areas: mechanics, thermodynamics, wave motion phenomena and its relation to sound and light, electricity, modern physics. Lab work is required.
PHYSICS HONORS (SC500) 11, 12 SC 350 AND DEPT. APPROVAL 2
This is a yearlong course that covers the basic topics of a first semester college course in Physics. The course goal is to prepare and challenge students interested in pursuing science and mathematical related career fields. A prerequisite of the course is that the student has taken and/ or is taking concurrently minimally a Pre-Calculus course. The student also must have completed a yearlong Physics course before beginning this course of study. This is a laboratory science. In a typical 15-day unit, 3 days will be deicated to lab work.
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY (SC 400) 11,12 SC 200 AND DEPT. APPROVAL 1
This course is designed for the college bound student who is considering a medical of health related career. The units of study include human cells, tissues, and detailed anatomical and physiological processes of the human body.
