SPANISH I (FL 100) 9,10,11,12 NONE 2
This course gives students the ability to use basic Spanish, which includes gaining proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Grammatical concepts are also covered in order to understand the language better. Various cultural topics are discussed and presented through audio-visual materials.
SPANISH II (FL 200) 10,11,12 FL 100 2
This course continues to build on the abilities learned in Spanish I with increasing proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. There is a review of Spanish I material as well as further explanations of grammar so that the language can be used in more challenging ways. Students also gain additional insights into culture through various presentations.
SPANISH III (FL 300) 11,12 FL 200 2
A comprehensive review of grammar and vocabulary skills learned in the first and second years of Spanish provide the basis for this course. Additional tenses and expanding vocabulary are taught throughout the year. Oral skills are emphasized. Students read, listen to, and write stories and articles inn Spanish.
SPANISH IV (FL 400) 11,12 FL300 2
This course is for the serious Spanish student interested in preparing for a college emphasis in the language or a career where being bilingual is essential. Conversational Spanish will be the norm in classroom discussion where students will expand their learning opportunities through lessons immersed in Spanish literature and culture.
SPANISH V (FL 500) 11, 12 FL400 2
This course is an independent advanced course for the Spanish student who has successfully completed Spanish level 4 with a B or better. The focus is on reading and writing using short stories, poetry, and novels to enhance the students immersion in the language. The student is required to conduct themselves 100% in Spanish. Listening and speaking is critical with the project presentations and grammar points will include the subjunctive, imperfect subjunctive, and all of the compound tenses. Students are also asked to lead the other students oin participation in teaching at the elementary level in Spanish. Materials used include: selections from Album, Sangre y Arena, Don Quijote, and El Cid; grammar points will come from Una Vez Mas.
