This course is designed to acquaint the student with the American business system as a part of our total economic environment. Topics studied are career exploration, business communications, technology, entrepreneurship, marketing and management. Business etiquette and ethics will be introduced.
INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS (BU 125) 9,10,11,12 NONE 1
This course, taught on IBM compatibles, is designed to teach the student efficient use of a keyboard using the "touch" method. The student learns the alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys. Societal impact of technology, computer-use ethics, careers in computers, types of input media, and the obtaining of output are also covered. This course will acquaint the student with the use of commercially marketed software; programming is not a part of the course.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS (BU 150) 9,10,11,12 BU 125 1
This course will offer the student an opportunity to develop increased skill levels in keyboarding speed and accuracy. Learning will continue in the areas of proofreading, composition, and the formatting of various business and personal documents. The course is applicable to students both for personal and vocational use. Students use Micro Soft Office software (Word, Access, Power Point, etc). A major project encompassing all aspects of Office 2000 is the culminating activity.
WEB DESIGN (BU 200) 10,11,12 NONE 1
Students will spend the semester learning the basic elements of web design in order to create, enhance, and manage a web site. Students will be required to complete projects like designing web graphics, taking and using digital photography, scanning graphics, and text composition.
PERSONAL FINANCE (BU 300) 11,12 NONE 1
Through the study of major units including budgeting, use of credit, investments, and insurance, students will learn strategies to become responsible consumers, producers, and economic citizens. A variety of instructional methods will be utilized i.e. lectures, simulations, role playing, guest speakers, etc.
