Through rehearsal and performance of basic music skills, the student has the opportunity to broaden his appreciation and understanding of all types of music and skills required to perform in musical organizations. Emphasis is placed upon developing enough skill on the individual instruments to perform at an average high school level. Exercises in technique, dynamics, articulation, and tone production are used every day in preparation for improving skills. Opportunities for performance include concerts and other school and community related events as determined by the director and the principal.
FRESHMEN CHOIR (MU 125) 9 NONE 2
Open to all freshmen, this choir class stresses fundamentals of singing. Basic vocal techniques including correct breathing and sight-reading are taught to enable the student to realize full potential of his/her voice and to provide an opportunity for Christian witness through song. Singing opportunities include two concerts per year, school chapel services, and possibly a Lutheran High School Sunday performance.
CONCERT CHOIR (MU 150) 10,11,12 NONE 2
Open to all sophomores, juniors and seniors, this choir offers a continuation of the skills learned in Freshmen Choir. A greater variety of more advanced music provides the material for this course. Advanced sight-reading, some music theory and history, and continued vocal technique are studied. The choir performs at two concerts per year, school chapel services, Lutheran High School Sundays, and other special occasions.
